Radio Identification System:
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office - Communications Division utilizes a unique radio identifying system that allows one to know what Line Officer and/or Emergency Service Apparatus is calling and what agency they represent. The radio numbers consist of 4 to 5 digits: 2-digit prefix indicting the Town/Agency; 1-digit indicating the Station/Squad number; and a 2-digit suffix indicating the officer/vehicle type.

Note: Some marine units may use the suffix 58 –> 60 or the designation “M” for boats. Bike units may use the designation “BT” and Special Service Units may use “SSU.”
As an example, “64-56” (pronounced “Sixty-Four Five Six”), would be an ambulance from Red Bank. The prefix "64" is assigned to the Borough of Red Bank and 56” represents an ambulance. One more example, “16-2-76” (pronounced “Sixteen Two Seven Six), would be a fire engine from Freehold Twp’s., Station 2. The prefix “16” is assigned to the Township of Freehold, “2” is East Freehold Fire Co., and “76” is a fire engine.
County Fire & EMS Radio Network:
The Monmouth County Fire & EMS communications network, consists of a centralized 9-1-1 communications center, a primary dispatch channel and several fireground channels. The communications center is located at the Monmouth County Police Radio Building, Kozloski Road, Freehold Township. Transmitters are placed throughout the county in strategic positions to ensure full radio coverage. Monmouth County also has (2) Field Communications Units (“Field Comm 1” and “Field Comm 2”). Field Comm 2 is a brand new truck that was recently placed in service. Both trucks have full radio coverage (all bands, all communities), along with land-line capability, video, light tower and police computer. They also have “cross-band” patching capability. Monmouth Fire 1 and Fire 2, are now simulcasted across the county over most transmitters.
